GOLD: BEST OF 2018
An Angel in the Mirror This short story was first published in: MIRACLE: CHRISTIAN By chance, I began writing it on the thirteenth anniversary of the 7/7 London bombings. It took many drafts before I found a voice for my main character and the story wasn't easy to write: while researching the story, I had to relive some painful memories of the bombings. The church (name changed) is real but all the characters are fictional. I wrote it during the hottest summer I have ever experienced in London. FIREBURST: FLASH FICTION Sideways rain on cruellest stone Existing for several years as a single paragraph (and subsequently forgotten), I was inspired to turn it into my first flash fiction effort. VORTEX: LITERARY The Evolving Previously unpublished, I was delighted that this short story was accepted for a literary collection. I first wrote it soon after I arrived in England but it was several decades before it "evolved" into its current form. Everything I describe about the beachfront is real - several brief holidays there left me dreaming about it forever, and dreams they will have to remain as that part of the coast has since been destroyed by floods and neglect. STORM: FANTASY A Lady in the Lake I adapted my Exodus Sequence short story WOKEN for this collection: it has the central part of the story with the opening and ending sequences removed. Read about WOKEN here. CONDOR: INAUGURAL Walked My Exodus Sequence short story WALKED has been included in this collection in its original form. You can read more about it here. |
